Can you tell me what the DMV instructor will ask me before we start the actual drive test?
Edward from Downtown Magnets High School in Los Angeles asks: Well im taking the driving test today,in THREE HOURS!!! I was wondering if you can tell me what the instructors ask you before leaving to do the test (about car) kind of nervous cant wtrite.. ?
Mr. Edward - so young and so nervous, just as I was when I went to get my license. Well never fear Edward, I'm here to help and guide you into your driving future.
Here are the questions the DMV examiner will ask you before you depart for the driving portion on your in car test. These questions make up the pre-drive portion of your test, each incorrect answer counts as 1 point against you, if you miss 3 questions it is considered an automatic fail. The questions are:
- - Know your hand signals (left turn, right turn, and slow/stop)
- Know where to find and how to activate:
- 1) headlight controls
2) windshield wiper controls
3) emergency hazard lights
4) window defroster
- Be able to identify the major gears (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive)
Good luck Edward, hopefully you don't need it!
Until next time, take a deep breath, eat a good breakfast, and ace that drive test!

Can I go faster than the speed limit if the flow of traffic is faster than the speed limit?
Shelby from Coalinga, CA aks: Helloooo Big Jon, can you tell me if it's okay to speed if everyone else is speeding? Could I still get pulled over?
Shelby, no one has called me Big Jon in years. You had me at Heloooo. Anyhow, the simple answer to your question is NO, you may not exceed the speed limit under any circumstance. So if everybody else is doing 70mph, but the posted speed is 65mph, then legally you must not exceed 65mph.
And could you still get a speeding ticket if everyone around you is speeding as well? Yes, you are still subject to the same speed laws and could be pulled over and given a traffic ticket.
Hope that helps!
Until next time Shelby from Coalinga, ease of the gas, make note of the posted speed limit, and stay ticket free!

I have to renew my drivers license in California, can I do it online?
Parker from North Hollywood, CA aks: Yo Jonny - it be Parker up in NoHo - my drivin license is bout to expire - can I renew dis thing wit out gettin up in the DMV?
Parker, your use of slang frightens me, but I will still help you because that is what I do.
In most cases, YES, you can renew your CA driver license without having to go to the DMV. In order to renew your license from home in North Hollywood or anywhere in California, make sure you:
-
• Have internet access (this is straight from the DMV)
• Are not changing your name or address (that is, all information in your license is staying the same)
• "Have a verified Social Security Number" on record with the DMV (you probably do even if you're not sure)
• Can pay with plastic - they accept the following credit cards: Visa, Master Card, American Express or Discover
Hope that helps!
Until next time Parker from NoHo, get online, get your $28 renewal fee ready, and renew your California drivers license!

OMG can i change my picture on my license??? please help!! thx Jonny!!!!!!
Chelsey from Escondido, CA Exclaims: My friend nd told me that the picture they took for my permit will be the same picture that they put on my driver's license!!?! Is that true? I totally didn't know they were going to take my picture and I look HORRIBLE!! HELP!!!!!!!
Chelsey, you have larger problems that your driver's license picture. For instance, your excessive use of exclamation points is somewhat disturbing. But, we are here to talk about driving, so let me address
your question.
The answer is yes, the picture the Escondido DMV took of you for your permit paperwork will be the same photo they use on your CA driver license. However, depending on the DMV and the mood of
the DMV employee assisting you, you can actually request that they retake your license photograph, free of charge. If you attempt to do this, make sure you ask them to retake the pic BEFORE you take your
DMV drive test. If they print up your DMV drive test paperwork, it may be too late for them to enter a new photo ID into the system.
Hope that helps!
Until next time Chelsey from Escondido, do your make-up, comb your hair, and go retake your driver license photo... you bright shining star you!

What do I need to have ready before I go to the DMV for my CA permit test?
Kenny from Santa Rosa, CA Asks: Hey i got my blue slip for drivers ed. at school and i should be testing to get my permit starting apr. 17 and i was wondering is there anything else i am required to do before i take my permit test? thanks
Howdy Doody Kenny from Santa Rosa, before you go to the DMV and take your permit test (besides bringing your drivers education certificate or the 'blue slip' as you call it -
make sure you have signed up for your behind the wheel training with a driving school.
The driving school should provide you with a form that shows proof you are enrolled with a licensed driving school.
Also, you may want to bring your social security card with you to the DMV - they may ask for it.
And if you wear glasses or contacts- bring those as well as you have to pass an eye exam.
That should do it - good luck!
Until next time Kenny from Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, study hard, sign up for a Santa Rosa Driving School, and good luck on your written test!

i wanted to know like how do you have to wait until after you get your learners to get the actual drivers licences?
Justyna from Gainesville, Florida Asks: How long do you have to hold your learner's license before getting your actual operator driver's license?
Hello Justyna from Gainesville, According to the Florida DHSMV:
Operator’s License (16 and 17 year old) - To earn an operator’s license, you must be at least 16 years old AND have held a learner’s license for at least one year without any traffic convictions.
So, it looks like at least 1 year.
Hope that helps.
Until next time Justyna from Gainesville, keep practicing for a year with your learners, earn your driver's license, and drive safe for another 100 years!
